Role
Select an area in which digital elevation model (DEM) raster images are currently available, the area must have significant changes in elevation so that variations in terrain can be analyzed. Request approval of the region from your instructor prior to starting the Case Study.
Problem
The problem is to show the methods to analyze terrain in an area which has elevation changes, this could be useful in wildfire suppression.

- Map showing the targeted region of the DEM, i.e. the basemap of the region.
- Map of the DEM, clipped from the full source map.
- A TIN map of the region.
- A Contour map of the region.
- A Hillshade map of the region.
- A Line of Sight map, the designer will select points.
- A Viewshed map, the designer will select the input file.
- A map showing the slope of the region.
- A report discussing the methods and the conclusions.

The required DEM must be obtained, the suggested source is at: http://kymartian.ky.gov/demwebusgs An online basemap service should be selected within ArcMap.

1. Maps must be of the same region for the entire assignment.
2. An appropriate basemap is used.
3. Email showing the instructor approval of the region.
4. Each design element is created and discussed.

Creativity will include what is presented and how appealing it is to the user. Half of these points will be based on how well the designer accomplished the completion of the problem. The other half of the points in this section will be to the functionality and appeal of the maps. The instructor can choose to award more than 20 points to maps that far exceed the requirements.
- All created maps should be fully formatted in an Adobe PDF.
- A map package
- A written assessment of what was done.
