This is the second course in a sequence and it is assumed that the participant will have the skills developed in the Introduction to GIST course/workshop. This course/workshop will cover the following topics:
- Georeferencing - the process of taking an image/paper map and creating a map that referenced to a projected grid,
- Heads Up Digitization - the processes of taking information from a image/paper map and creating it as a vector layer,
- Map Editor - the ability to edit attributes and create new features ,
- Contour Map Creation - elevation topographic lines created from a digital elevation model (DEM),
- TIN - a solid model created from a DEM/contour,
- GPS - a receiving device that is used to determine position,
- Smart Devices, photograph and Maps - the use of a smart device (tablet, smart phone) to photograph objects and using the location device of the smart device to create a map with images.
- Introduction to Remote Sensing - elementary classification of an aerial image in three visible and one invisible band of the electromagnetic spectrum.
